Nepal and China Move to Establish Trans-border Tourism Zone

Following a bilateral meeting in Lhasa, officials from Nepal and Tibet (Xizang) have tasked a joint committee to develop an action plan for the “Jilong-Rasuwa Trans-border Tourism Zone.” The plan includes resuming the Kathmandu-Lhasa bus service and simplifying border passes, specifically targeting a recovery in Chinese arrivals which reached only 86,800 in 2025—far below the 300,000 government target.
